How to choose the correct single sized mattress

Standard single mattress: if your sleeping space is a standard single bed size, then this is the perfect mattress for your divan base or bed frame. In terms of area, a single bed mattress measures 90 x 190 cm, or if you are more familiar with imperial sizes, a standard single mattress may also be referred to as a ‘3ft single’. Single mattress sizes are perfect for small children as they move from cots to their first proper bed, and are a sound investment right through to their late teens. Suitable for 1 person, single bed mattresses are also handy for spare or guest bedrooms.

Small single mattress: this mattress is a versatile size. Measuring just 75 x 200 cm, it will fit narrower bedframes often designed for children, or space saver beds with a pull out base stored away underneath. A small single mattress sleeps just one person, but if you have more than one, there are other advantages. Put two small single mattresses of the same height side by side and you have the equivalent sleeping area to a king size. This may prove easier to manage if you often have to move furniture around. And for dual action king size adjustable beds a pair of small single mattresses is essential.

Long single mattress: occasionally referred to as 3’0 Europeans because they will fit continental single size bed bases. Long single mattresses measure 90 x 200 cm. They are 10 cm longer than a standard UK single size. Match with a dual action super king size adjustable bed base, and two long single mattresses are essential. Provided they are the same height, each sleeper can choose a mattress with a different comfort level. Or put two side by side on a static bed base to create a super king size sleeping space. Cover them both with a super king mattress protector or soft fitted sheet….
