What are the measurements of a king size mattress?

A standard king sized mattress measures 150 x 200 cm. This gives you much more space to sleep in than a double mattress, which can be hugely important to the quality of your sleep.

A king mattress leaves you with plenty of wriggle room, so you can twist, turn and change position without disturbing your partner. Remember, you’ll need to make sure that you buy the right king size bed base. to fit your mattress!

In the US, a king sized mattress is known as a ‘queen’ or 'wide double'. So, if you’re looking for a queen-sized mattress – you’re in the right place.

How to choose the right king mattress

The right king mattress type for you will depend on a few factors. Everybody’s different, so you might want to take into account:

• Your bed frame and base. Different mattresses are suited to different frames and bed bases. For example, a continental or antique base may require a larger Euro king size mattress. Our standard king mattresses measure 150x200 cm, while our Euro King measures 160x200 cm.
• Your individual sleep needs. How you sleep might affect what type of mattress you need. Different feels – soft, medium, medium-firm and firm – are suited to different sleepers.

What types of king size mattresses are there?

At TEMPUR^®, we offer two different sizes of king size mattresses:

• Standard king size. 150x200 cm.
• Euro king size. 160x200 cm. For king size mattresses that don’t fit the standard UK size.

We also offer a range of different king size mattress types. These include the:

• TEMPUR ONE™. The ONE™ is 20cm deep and is available in soft, medium and firm.
• TEMPUR Pro^® SmartCool™. The Pro™ is 21cm deep and uses layers of TEMPUR^® Advanced and Adapt materials. The washable cover features specialised SmartCool™ Technology to keep you cool.
• TEMPUR Pro^® Plus SmartCool™. 25cm deep. Like our Pro^®, but with a little extra support.
• TEMPUR Pro^® Luxe SmartCool™. Our most advanced mattress. 30cm deep – like our Pro^® and Pro^® Plus, but provides our greatest level of support.

There are also four different levels of firmness, or feels, to choose from across our Pro^® SmartCool™ king size range:

• Soft. Popular with side sleepers but suitable for every position.
• Medium. Good for people who sleep in all positions.
• Medium-firm. As above, preferred by customers seeking a balance between comfort and support.
• Firm. A favourite with front and back sleepers.

What firmness is available in TEMPUR^® king size mattresses?

All our SmartCool™ king mattresses are available in 4 feels - soft, medium, medium-firm and firm. Meanwhile, our TEMPUR ONE™ king is available in three feels – soft, medium and firm.

Can a king size mattress fit on a double bed?

No, a king sized mattress is quite a bit larger than a double bed frame. For comparison, a standard king size measures 150x200cm, while a double measures 135x190cm. That means a king is 15 cm wider and 10 cm longer than a double – so it just wouldn’t fit!

How wide is a king size mattress?

A king-size mattress is 150cm wide – around 5”, or 59 inches. It’s also 200cm long – around 6’6”, or 79 inches. We also offer a Euro king size which is 160cm wide and 200cm long.
