Black Friday FAQs

Black Friday falls on the last Friday of November. In 2025, this is Friday 28th November. Synonymous with unmissable deals.

Black Friday is a day of shopping deals, where companies offer price reductions and offers both in-store and online. Its origins are rooted in the United States, taking place the day after Thanksgiving, the first recorded reference to ‘Black Friday’ goes back to 1951, first appearing in an industrial journal. The articles highlighted the trend of workers calling in sick the day after Thanksgiving so they could enjoy a rare 4-day weekend.

This paved the way for a new shopping trend, as crowds would make use of the extended weekend to get a head start on their Christmas purchases.

The surge in sales would also cause a financial boom for the retail industry. This financial pivot point would turn their balance sheets from a loss – in red – to a profit – in black. Hence another possible reason for the name ‘Black Friday’.

Why is it called Cyber Monday?

Cyber Monday gets its name because it’s primarily an online shopping event. First used in 2005, Cyber Monday is the name for the first day of the week after the Black Friday weekend. Even though people are returning to work, they still want to shop. So, rather than go in-store, they search online for deals. Because it’s so easily accessible, Cyber Monday has become one of the biggest ecommerce shopping days of the year.

Black Friday is the perfect time to shop early, beat the festive rush, and make sure your gifts arrive well before the holiday festivities begin.* Enjoy peace of mind knowing you’ve saved time and money, all while treating your loved ones to truly restful sleep with TEMPUR®.
