Who doesn’t relish the feel of double knitted soft jersey cotton bed linen? Machine washable up to 90°C (depending on colour selected,) there’s no ironing. Just wash, dry and use! How to choose bed sheets?
When we make our bed and begin to layer clean fresh linen onto our mattress, after a mattress protector the next thing we usually add is a sheet. Colours and patterns aside, the bottom sheet which is the one you lay on directly, is generally one of two styles: flat or fitted.
What is the difference between a flat and a fitted sheet?
A flat sheet is a large hemmed rectangle of cloth which requires tucking in, often using a technique referred to as ‘hospital corners’ to make it look neat and tidy. Some sleepers add a second flat sheet on top and lay between them, as well as using a quilt. In a time-poor society, however, many people do not bother as far more effort is needed to keep the bed looking nice and tidy.
A fitted sheet, on the other hand, requires much less fuss. Made with elasticated corners, high quality versions such as the TEMPUR-FIT™ Fitted Sheet have fully elasticated edges all round for a snug fit. To use a fitted sheet, just put one corner over the corresponding corner of your mattress and stretch across the top hooking it over each subsequent corner as you go. Stretchy fibres such as elastane woven in to the material should ensure your sheet fits tight to the mattress with minimum final hand smoothing required. No corner folding or tucking in is necessary. Fitted sheets are only used as bottom sheets to dress your mattress.
