What are the measurements of a double mattress?

A standard double mattress measures 135 x 190cm – or 4ft 6”. At TEMPUR^®, we offer the standard double bed mattress, plus 3 further sizes for those with different sleep requirements and non-standard bed frames.

A double mattress is the perfect size for couples, or a solo sleeper who likes more room to spread out. Whatever size you choose, you’ll need to make sure you buy the right double bed base to fit.

How to choose the right double mattress

How you sleep and what comfort or support you prefer is unique to you. The right double mattress for you will depend on:

Your bed base

The mattress you choose will depend on the size of your bed base. We offer more than just your standard double. Make sure when ordering your mattress that you measure carefully!

• Our standard double mattresses measure 135 x 190cm, great for your typical double bed frame.
• For smaller bed bases, ideal for teenagers' rooms, a small double mattress (120 x 190cm) is the ideal choice.
• A long small double mattress (120 x 200cm) should fit a non-standard continental frame.
• Long double mattresses (135 x 200cm) fit snugly on a double adjustable bedframe with a single handset. They also fit some non-standard continental frames.

Your sleep preferences

How you sleep and who you share a bed with will also affect what mattress you buy. Most couples are more than happy with your standard double mattress with bedspreads made to fit and bed frames that are easy to find.

If you prefer to sleep alone then a small double is the perfect size for single sleepers, while a long double mattress fits perfectly on an adjustable double bed with a single handset.

What types of double mattresses are there?

At TEMPUR^®, we offer four different sizes of double bed mattresses:

• Standard double. 135x190cm. Your typical double mattress that fits most double bed frames.
• Small double. 120x190cm. Sometimes called the ‘4ft mattress’. Great for one person, or for couples who want to make the most of a smaller bedroom or guest room.
• Long small double. 120x200cm. For those with a non-standard continental bed frame, or taller people who want to make the most of their space. These mattresses also fit perfectly on a small double adjustable bed with a single handset. These mattresses are made to order – so measure carefully!
• Long double. 135x200cm. For non-standard continental frames, or a double adjustable bed with a single handset. Perfect for couples who need a little extra legroom. Like our long small doubles, these are made to order!

We also offer a range of different double mattress types, including:

• TEMPUR ONE™. The ONE™ is 20cm deep and is available in soft, medium and firm.
• TEMPUR Pro^® SmartCool™. The Pro® is 21cm deep and uses layers of TEMPUR® Advanced and Adapt materials. It uses specialised SmartCool™ Technology to keep you cool. Available in soft, medium, medium-firm, and firm.
• TEMPUR Pro^® Plus SmartCool™. 25cm deep. Like our Pro®, but with a little extra support.
• TEMPUR Pro^® Luxe SmartCool™. Our most advanced mattress. 30cm deep – like our Pro® and Pro® Plus, but provides our greatest level of support.

There are also four different levels of firmness, or feels, to choose from:

• Soft. Popular with side sleepers but suitable for every position.
• Medium. Good for people who sleep in all positions.
• Medium-firm. As above, preferred by customers seeking a balance between comfort and support.
• Firm. A favourite with front and back sleepers.
