  1. Call an old friend

    It can be difficult to keep in touch with people when you have a hectic lifestyle, but why not use the extra hour to have a good catch up. On average, women say 833 words per hour, compared to men who say 291 words an hour.

  2. Play a board game

    Sit down with the family and have a game of Monopoly or Chess. The longest tournament chess game (in terms of moves) ever to be played was Nikolić-Arsović, Belgrade 1989, which lasted 20 hours and 15 minutes to complete a drawn game.

    294 billions emails are sent per day. However, only 1.9 billion of these are deemed to be genuine and not annoying spam.

    The most hugs given in one hour is 2,436 and was achieved by Jayasimha Ravirala in Tekkali, Andrha Pradesh, India, on 29th September 2012.

  3. Take a selfie

    Selfies are all over social media websites, so why not take some of your own? Canadian Melinda Shankar managed to take 421 selfies in one hour. That’s a lot of pouting and smiling!

    Slip into a nice hot bubble bath and feel the stresses of the week melt away. Use essential, cosmetic or medicinal oils to help you relax.

    An hour long nap is perfect for improving short term alertness, without making you feel groggy or interfering with your night-time sleep patterns.

  3. Make a delicious breakfast

    Breakfast is the most important meal of the day so why not whip up something tasty to start your day. Breakfast should be eaten within two hours of waking and provide 20-35% calories of your guideline daily allowance.

    A good 1 hour workout can improve your mood, boost energy levels and promote better sleep. You can also burn up to 500 calories with an intense workout which is equivalent to a Big Mac.

    Erik Skramstad holds the record for the longest distance cycled in one hour without using their hands. The American managed to ride 37km 417 metres in Las Vegas.

    Where most people would go to the barbers or hairdressers to get their hair cut, David Rae of the UK managed to give 27 haircuts under water in one hour at the London School of Diving in 2007.

    Christmas might seem ages away but it will creep up on you before you know it! Shop online for Christmas presents and avoid the rush to the shops in December.

    Cleaning can be boring and time consuming, so why not make use of the extra hour doing the little jobs you never have time to do like cleaning the bedroom or kitchen.

    Playing with your cat or dog can be amazingly therapeutic. People who own cats or dogs are 30% less likely to suffer a heart attack.

  2. Travel 1,000 miles in bed

    The earth rotates at 1,070 miles per hour meaning that even by staying in bed or in one spot you are travelling the same distance as you would on a flight from London to Monaco.

    Now’s the time to plant bulbs and flowers which bloom in the Spring.
